Verbal Jint Apologizes For Using “Gfriend” As The Title Of His New Song
Rapper Verbal Jint has apologized for misunderstandings caused by the title of one of his new singles, “Gfriend,” and revealed that he intends to change it.
When the rapper revealed the song on October 21 — as a double single alongside “Trainee Girl” — netizens criticized his use of the English title “Gfriend” on the song, in which Verbal Jint talks about make-up sex. The abbreviated spelling of girlfriend is the same as the six-member girl group GFRIEND, and fans of the group balked at the implications of using the girl group’s name on a sexual song.
Saying he never imagined that it would upset fans, Verbal Jint apologized on October 22 on his Instagram. He said:
“Hello, this is Verbal Jint. I’m writing this apology with regards to one of my pre-release tracks from yesterday.
“I had been working on my mini album with an idea similar to Young Thug’s from his 2016 ‘Jeffery’ album, in which the song names are those of actual celebrities. In casually titling a song that had already been written, I never imagined that I would bring discomfort to GFRIEND or to their fans.
“I apologize for not being able to respond more quickly, and I will be changing the title of the song as soon as possible. Once again, I apologize.”
