Style Breakdown: TVXQ’s “Catch Me”

TVXQhas FINALLY returned with “Catch Me“! For guys who are exceedingly stylish on and off stage, they’ve been known to take a few fashion missteps in their music videos (remember those… ummm…interestingsuits from “Keep Your Head Down“?). Let’s take a look at how they did this time around.

In parts of the music video,YunhoandChangminwore white sweatshirts with silver patterns on the arms and collar with matching shorts and gloves. Both wore shiny silver button-downs underneath- Changmin let the collar and both shirt tails show, while Yunho only left one shirt tail out. What’d you do with your collar, Yunho? I’m not a huge fan of this look on either of the guys.

For their solo shots in a very mirrored room, the guys wore silver blazers with graphic tees underneath and white pants. Definitely an improvement over the other white and silver outfits.

For the scenes where they seemed to be dancing on a puddle of spilled milk, they wore sporty jackets with dark bodices and white sleeves that feature silver foil detailing as well as matching dark shorts with more foil silver detailing.

For the main dance sequences, the guys decided to go for non-matching outfits. Yunho wore a baseball t-shirt that features a camouflage pattern on the front with black sleeves and a black back along with matching pants. Changmin opted for a black button-down shirt, with metallic gold trim around the placket, tucked into black skinny jeans. They both wore the cage half-sleeves for the hulk dance.  While both members look good, I think Changmin’s dressier outfit is more fitting for the video.

During the main solo shots, both members wore long-sleeved black shirts and black pants with gold-studded black gloves. Changmin wore a zip-front cage vest, while Yunho wore a gold necklace with a long fringe tucked into a buckle-front, caged half-corset. Again, I think Changmin’s outfit looks better than Yunho’s. Changmin’s style emphasizes his lean body for a cool, futuristic effect. The proportions are a bit off in Yunho’s outfit.

While I’m not a huge fan of Changmin’s blonde hair and bowl cut, it does look good when it’s spiked up in front. However, I really like Yunho’s new color and cut. While he wears it up in a pompadour for most of the video, my favorite style is how he wears it with his camo outfit- down and loose, so that it moves when he’s dancing.

Overall, the guys are looking more demure than usual, with not even one shirtless or shirtless-under-a-blazer scene. They’re also incorporating more casual styles into their wardrobe, instead of just suits and over-the-top stage costumes. What’s your favorite look in “Catch Me”?
