[ASKKPOP] [Original Feature] Retro Fashion Inspired by 'Reply 1994'

With denim jackets, snapback caps, oversizesweaters, letterman jackets, flannels, and even overalls back in style, it'sclear that 90's fashion is making a strong comeback (yay)! As a 90's babymyself, I love revamping my old school looks, and making them relevant andtrendy today.

This being said, one drama that really caught my eye was'Reply 1994.' Aside from the awesome script writing, I really enjoyed thefashion throughout the series.  I thoughtthe stylists did an amazing job capturing the essence of fashion from the 90'sto 00's while making each outfit relevant to current trends as well.  So, for this piece I've decided to recreatesome 90's looks, with some inspiration from my favorite looks as seen in the drama!

In the 90's, I definitely rockedYoon-Jin (Do-Hee)'s look—herlook made me so nostalgic that I'm seriously debating sporting the middlehair-part again.  Yoon-Jin covered thequintessential "tom boy/grunge" look that was in style in the 90s.  Keyword:oversize.  She often paired oversize shirts andsweatshirts with baggy pants, min-shin shorts, or overalls.  Now, while it may seem like this style isoutdated, I think that each statement piece she wore is very much relevant.  While in the 90's all baggy everything was infashion, I think the trend today is to equalize the baggy and the formfitting.

I personally often pair oversizeshirts or sweaters, inspired by Yoon-Jin, with leggings or skinny jeans.  In the below outfit, I combined an oversize sweater (men's), textured leggings, boots, and a snapback cap.  I think the "chill" vibe of theoversize sweater and snapback balances out the chic look of the leggings andboots, thus allowing you to look slightly tomboyish, yet feminine at the sametime :)

AlthoughNa-Jung (Go Ara)'slooks are meant to be retro, I would say they most closely resemble my currentfashion.  Na-Jung's fashion reallydeveloped throughout the series, and I loved a lot of the feminine looks shedonned.  In my opinion, the staple tomany of her outfits was her use of coats as the statement piece in heroutfit.I particularly loved when she paired them with dresses/tights.  Two accessories that she often wore werecross-body bags and hats.  Fashion hasfinally come full circle to a point where I can wear my mom's purse from the90s and receive compliments; Na-Jung's cross-body bags added a nice femininetouch to all of her outfits.  Andalthough I personally cannot rock the beret look (unfortunately I have an odd-shapedhead), I've been loving this particular look on fashion blogs and Na-Jung; itgives a simple outfit a whole new dimension.

I think Na-Jung's fashion really hit the head onthe nail throughout the series.  I triedto recreate a similar look below.  I think thekey is to have one or two statement pieces within the outfit.  For this particular look, I would probablyeven wear a black bag to really put an emphasis on the coat!

As for the men's fashion, I was a huge fan aswell.  I really don't think you can evergo wrong with the simple sweater and straight jean combination (as worn byTrash, played byJung Wooin the promo poster pictured above), or thebaseball cap/varsity sweater fashion often seen onChilbong, played byYoo Yun Suk.  However, the track-suit and overall lookswere and still are a little questionable onyoungmen to me (if you're anahjusshigoing on a morning jog, it's totally acceptable).  Although,Jeremy Scott x Adidasseem to bebringing back both looks, so maybe I'll have to eat my words in the nearfuture.
