Music, movies mix at Jecheon event

The 10th Jecheon International Music and Film Festival (Jimff) runs from Aug. 14 to 19 in Jecheon, North Chungcheong.

The event first opened in 2005 with the goal of championing various movie genres, especially music films. Following the festival's objective, the 2014 edition will feature 88 music films from 32 countries and about 30 bands.

This year's Jimff marks the first time for a Korean movie to launch the festival. "Golden Chariot in the Sky", directed byO Muel, introduces the struggles of musicians with financial difficulties.

The film is particularly anticipated as the Korean ska bandKingston Rudieskais making a big-screen debut with its Jamaica-influenced jazz music that's bound to have the audience bouncing in their seats.

The festival chooses movies with different musical themes for its several segments. "World Music Film Today" will introduce overseas films that deal with music regardless of genre, while "Music in Sight" will introduce documentaries that show how music interacts with life. In "Cinema Concert", silent films will be accompanied by a live orchestra.

To celebrate 10 years of the festival, there also will be a section screening films and documentaries that previously received positive reviews at Jimff, such as "Searching for Sugar Man".

The upcoming festival will be made all the more special with a bigger stage to host "Ten Ten Festival", which features street performers and musicians that have performed in movies screened at the event.

In the music program "One Summer Night", popular Korean musicians such as Rose Motel, YB andHoranwill feature.

With many movies and performances to enjoy, Jimff could be this summer's ultimate festival for both music and film lovers.
