2011 Seoul Fashion Week kicks off on March 28

Seoul Fashion Week has returned for a six-day run on March 28, bringing together emerging and established Korean designers.

Hosted under the auspices of the Seoul Metropolitan Government as part of its Korean fashion globalization project, Seoul Fashion Week features dazzling runway styles and a new professional trade show, “Fashion Takeoff.” This bi-annual event will take place at Seoul Trade Exhibition & Convention (SETEC) and Kring, a creative culture space in Samseong-dong.

Seoul Collection, the main attraction and the only program open to the public, is set to premiere the latest collections by 27 veteran Korean designers, including Lie sang bong for Lie sang bong Paris, Chang Kwang Hyo for Caruso, Choi Bumsuk for General Idea by Bumsuk and Gee Chun Hee for Miss Gee Collection.

Fashion Takeoff differentiates itself from Seoul Collection in both scale and audience. The event will be held in Kring from March 29 to 31, and is geared exclusively toward the international fashion world, including buyers, press and fashion professionals. It aims to ensure long-term success for Korean designers while building one of Korea’s “next-generation” growth engines, according to Seoul Metropolitan Government. Up-and-coming talents supported by the government’s “Seoul’s 10 Soul” will also take part in the Fashion Takeoff session.

Alongside Seoul Collection and Fashion Takeoff, this year’s Fashion Week will also include “Generation Next” and “Seoul Fashion Fair” to reach out to the overseas market. During Fashion Week, organizers will not only showcase the latest runway fashions, but also cutting-edge IT technology through a business-friendly “Smart Pad Tablet order system.”

Seoul Fashion Week will host campaigns to raise relief funds for Japanese quake victims, as well as a charity event with donations by renowned designers. The charity bazaar will take place on April 2, starting at 2:30 p.m., as will be an excellent chance for the fashion-conscious to add a designer label to their wardrobe while helping Japan with its recovery efforts.
