Biography

Warat Bureephakdee is a 20-year-old filmmaker and moving image creator from Bangkok. He began his filmmaking journey in 2020 while still a student at Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni) School 2. Later, he pursued studies in film at the School of Digital Media & Cinematic Arts, Bangkok University. Warat is known for works such as "We Live in a Beautiful World" and "Secret Among Wings," both featured at the Wildtype Festival 2022. A reimagined version of "We Live in a Beautiful World," titled "VVii Live in a Beautiful World," received the special White Elephant Award at the 26th Thai Short Film & Video Festival in 2022. In early 2023, he collaborated with Tanapong Thepparak on documentaries such as "Lottery Land" and "Aimagination." Both films competed in the Experimental Short Film Competition category at the 6th PRISM UBD Short Film Festival in Brunei, with "Aimagination" winning first prize. Although Warat initially focused on short fiction films, he developed an interest in documentary filmmaking in early 2023, particularly documentaries that feature Bangkok as a central character. He believes documentaries offer alternative perspectives that fictional narratives cannot. After creating documentaries centered on Bangkok, Warat expanded his work to cover various topics and regions. In June 2023, he participated in the "Through the Lens of Climate" workshop organized by the Chiang Rai Film Club. Along with his team, he created the documentary "Super Mom," which addresses forest fire issues and the heroes who combat them in northern Thailand. In October 2023, his documentaries were aired on Thairath Online. "สุราธิปไตย Drunkmocracy" explored craft beer and progressive alcohol laws. Beyond creating films, Warat has been involved in various aspects of filmmaking. He acted as the lead in the feature film "Today, Everyday" by his university peer Koraphat Cheeradit. Previously, Warat and Koraphat collaborated on the short film "Yesterday is Another Day," where Warat contributed as a co-scriptwriter, assistant director, and producer. The film was screened at Wildtype Festival 2023 and won the Best Short Student Film award at the Chiang Mai Film Festival 2023. In October 2023, Warat initiated the "JuBchaii" screening program, showcasing short films inspired by his experience with the Wildtype team. This program has run nine screenings to date. In 2024, Warat began the year with a moving image/home movie project titled "Soon to Be Forgotten," shot on Super 8mm film. The project, created in support of the Thai Film Archive and Rolling Wild, was featured at the Bangkok 242: A Space for Sharing event at the Bangkok Art & Culture Center from January to May. Later in the year, he received a project development grant from Content Lab: Newcomers 2024, collaborating with Koraphat Cheeradit and Hesome Chemamah on a feature film currently in development and seeking funding. He also participated in the Incubator Lab by CutByCut Studio alongside Koraphat Cheeradit for another feature film, which is also in development and seeking funding. His latest short film, "Crazy Soft Power Love," was selected for screening at Wildtype 2024 in micro cinemas across Thailand. It was also included in the HOLY WAR ZONE short film program and received a nomination for the "Baby Golden Ganja" award for Best Short Film at the Amazing Stoner Movie Festival 2024.
