Biography

Mostafa Oskooyi was an Iranian theater director, actor, and arts critic, recognized as a pioneer in Iranian theater. Born in Tehran, he pursued acting studies in his hometown before specializing in direction at the Moscow State Institute of Performing Arts, graduating in 1955. Upon returning to Iran, Oskooyi became the first professional actor and director to qualify in Tehran, significantly influencing the development of modern Iranian theater. He directed and acted in numerous stage productions, bringing contemporary techniques and perspectives to Iranian audiences. Oskooyi also ventured into film, directing The Female Vampire (1967), which is noted for its unique approach within Iranian cinema. His contributions extended to arts criticism, where he advocated for the advancement of Iranian performing arts. Oskooyi passed away in Tehran at the age of 81.
