Why didn't "Haeundae Lovers" make a hit?

KBS 2TV drama "Haeundae Lovers" has ended.

On the final episode of the drama, Ko So-ra (Jo Yeo-jeong) was relieved of all charges and Yoon Se-na (Nam Gyoo-ri) agreed to divorce. So-ra managed to find back her hotel with the help of her birth mother and Se-na and Choi Joon-hyeok (Jeong Seok-won) ended up showing interest in each other after all they've been through.

"Haeundae Lovers" was popular for its team comprised ofJo Yeo-jeong,Kim Kang-woo, writerHwang Eun-kyeongfrom MBC"New Heart", "Daemul - Big Thing" and "City Hunter". It was expected as the hidden card to bring KBS back up on its feet.

However, the contents of the drama was so stale it was hard to believe it was written by the hit-maker Hwang and the typical characters brought on a frown.

Hwang was widely known for her creation of unique characters. She created LeeEun-seong(Ji Seong), an attractive character from MBC"New Heart", a bold and manly prosecutor named Ha Do-ya (kwon Sang-woo) from "Daemul - Big Thing" and strong and sexy manLee Yoon-seong(Lee Min-ho) from "City Hunter". On the other hand, "Haeundae Women" might have had the quality and emotions of Hwang but it didn't have all the appealing characters.

The Candy-like character of Ko So-ra, so commonly seen in romantic comedies was no different to all typical female characters in Korean dramas. The character of Choi Joon-hyeok (Jeong Seok-won) who watches Ko So-ra from far away and feels love for her at one point but then goes over to the bad side in the end is just one we can't understand.

Joo-hee (Kang Min-kyeong) who lied to steal the husband of her friend and then being so shameless about it and Se-na love for the man who didn't love her didn't connect with the viewers.

From Hwang to the cast, none of them fully revealed what they were truly capable of. Being a typical romantic comedy in the end, "Haeundae Women" has left the building with no impact.
