[ASKKPOP] Indie band hyukoh's songs accused of plagiarism + HIGHGRND refutes accusations

With big fame comes big controversy, as is the case with indie bandhyukohat the moment. The group has been swept up in plagiarism accusations for two of their songs.

An online community regarding this topic has been gaining traction, and it has been spreading on social media as well. Hyukoh's songs "Lonely" and "Panda Bear" are claimed to resembleThe Whitest Boy Alive's "1517" andYumi Zouma's "Dodi".

With questions arising, HIGHGRND gave their official statement.

HIGHGRND stated, "First off, we express regret that songs that our artist has worked hard to prepare for and released have been swept up in this kind of controversy. In the case of 'Lonely', The Whitest Boy Alive's leaderErlend Oyevisited Korea and they had a performance together, and hyukoh opened the concert with this song. Erlend Oye even heard it and gave good feedback."

And about the song "Panda Bear", they said, "This song was performed starting from last year and was released in January. Taking into account that Yumi Zouma's song was released in March, in terms of the timing, it is impossible [that hyukoh plagiarized]."

Take a listen to the songs below and decide for yourself how similar they sound.
