Hangul T-shirts in New York

SingerKim Jang-hoonsaid yesterday that he distributed T-shirts featuring Korean writing on the streets of New York to celebrate Hangul Day, a day commemorating the invention of the Korean alphabet.

On his MeToday microblog, Kim said he and a group of Korean students from New York University distributed 600 shirts for about 50 minutes at Washington Square Park in the city.

"Many of the foreigners gathered and really liked the Hangul design", he said. "The event went well, even though I was a bit worried earlier, and we should continue doing this".

He said the T-shirts were given along with some basic Korean language education, and the details were planned by the Korean university students.

Kim plans on having a similar giveaway again next month, this time handing out 1,000 T-shirts at a different location.

Kim first met with students at NYU after the Korean student group asked him to present a special lecture.
