Jeonju Film Festival scales back celebrations

Jeonju Film Festival scales back celebrations

In light of the Sewol ferry tragedy, Jeonju International Film Festival will forego a few of the events that it planned for the festival, which will open as scheduled on May 1.

The red carpet gala that was slated for the opening, as well the awards ceremony on May 7, have been canceled. The same goes for the receptions that were to be held after these events.

A party that was scheduled for May 6 and busking events that were to be held over the duration of the festival, have also been canned.

In all, some 31 performances by 20 teams will be affected by the changes.

"Although some of the events were planned up to a year earlier, to show our condolences we decided to pull them back", said the festival committee through a press release on Tuesday.

For each screening that takes place during the festival a message of condolence will be played in memory of the victims.
