Hot Nights to Continue Until Mid-August

Sleepless hot nights are expected to continue for another week or more after the morning low in Seoul fell no further than 27 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Sunday was ipchu, the beginning of fall by the lunar calendar, but the heat wave is forecast to last until Aug. 17.

Seoul saw 15 tropical nights when the mercury did not dip below 25 degrees from July 22 to Sunday and will continue for another week at least.

Seoul will have seen at least 25 tropical nights this year if the weather pans out as the Korea Meteorological Administration has forecast, second only to the record summer of 1994 when the capital saw 36 tropical nights.

Meanwhile, daytime highs will reach 29 to 35 degrees on Monday -- 34 degrees in Seoul and Daejeon, 35 degrees in Daegu and Gwangju, and 33 degrees in Busan.
